John Waterhouse has always been interested in art, gaining inspiration and encouragement from his parents. In 1983, at the age of sixteen, John Waterhouse left school gaining a grade A in O'level art and winning the overall school prize for best art pupil. John Waterhouse began teaching young offenders art in 2000, which he found incredibly rewarding, before beginning to paint on a full-time basis.

John Waterhouse grew up in Staffordshire which has led to a lifelong romance with the countryside. John is inspired by the English countryside and finds that fields and trees have their own character and history, just as a person does. John Waterhouse also enjoys the challenge of painting people and his ideas can often evolve from merely observing people in their daily lives.
